DARC is the studio built and run by well known Athens producer/engineers Eric Friar and Asa Leffer. Asa and Eric began their musical and recording careers in 1994 by touring in the indie-rock band wunderkind. It was with this band that they both cut their first demos and it was also this band that took them inside a professional recording studio for the first time. Eventually the passion for the music they were making turned into a passion for recording. Their first "studio" was in the former .357 Warehouse/Tight Pockets DIY show space. That was barely more than a Tascam 16 track 1/2 inch and a handful of mics. The first serious studio attempt called Skylab Audio, named after the control room sitting atop an A-frame house. Skylab quickly grew and a new, more professional space was needed. They opened DARC in it's current location three years ago and have quickly risen to become one of the best known and busiest recording studios in Athens and greater north, GA. This is due in no small part to the talent, knowledge and creativity Asa and Eric bring to the projects they work on. Click on a name to see someone's bio and list of credits.
Other engineers.
DARC is open to other engineers and producers and indeed, some great names have recorded here. Chris Colbert, J. Robbins and Daniel Rickert are a few examples.
Interns.
We are currently seeking out dedicated interns who are interested in learning how to record. Opportunities for session work will follow a successful intern period.
